FIP Promises Tour sets an Asian record with 191 youth pairs in Bandung
The FIP Promises Tour, the International Padel Federation's circuit for players aged 12 to 18, has a new participation record in Asia. The FIP Promises West Java, played in Bandung, Indonesia, from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 October, has drawn 191 pairs across eight draws: four boys' and four girls' categories from Under 12 to Under 18. According to the FIP, it is the second-largest event of the whole 2026 season by entries, behind only January's FIP Promises in Valencia, which reached 214 pairs.
Three records in four months
The figure confirms a trend the FIP itself has been tracking in Indonesia. In July, the FIP Promises in Jakarta, the country's first youth-circuit event, closed with 113 pairs. In August, Bali raised the bar to 138, at the time the biggest field ever for an FIP youth tournament on the continent. Bandung beats that mark by 53 pairs barely two months later. The largest draws are the boys' Under 14, with 46 pairs, and Under 16, with 42.
A country that has embraced padel
Indonesia is one of the fastest-growing markets in world padel. According to figures from the FIP's research department published in May, the country has around 400,000 amateur players, and the number of courts grew by 186% in six months to approach 1,000. Galih Dimuntur Kartasasmita, president of the Indonesian Padel Association (PBPI), put it simply: "it all starts with youth development".
A dress rehearsal for the Junior Asia Padel Cup
Bandung is Indonesia's third FIP Promises event of the year and doubles as a dress rehearsal for the FIP Junior Asia Padel Cup, the continental national-team championship for Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 players that Jakarta will host from 7 to 14 November. It will be the tournament's second edition, after Bahrain in 2024, which Japan won, and the first to include a girls' competition.
