Gijón to host Premier Padel again in 2027 for a third straight year
Gijón will host the Premier Padel tour again in 2027. Organisers have told the city council they want to keep the event in the Asturian city, which will stage it for a third year in a row at the Palacio de los Deportes de La Guía, the tour's only stop in northern Spain. The contract still has to be signed, which local media expect in the coming days.
Back in March
The tournament will be played in March 2027, although the exact dates are not yet official: La Nueva España points to early March, as this year, while regional broadcaster RTPA mentions the week of 15 March. The council's sponsorship will be similar to last time, above €700,000, and the deal is expected to cover a single year. According to La Nueva España, Premier Padel prefers a short commitment so it can look at new events in the Middle East further down the line.
The renewal was not a given. Sports councillor Jorge Pañeda told El Comercio that Gijón was up against much bigger cities with larger budgets, including in Asia, and that its trump card was a simple one: organisers and players "love our city".
From a rocky debut to packed stands
Gijón's story with Premier Padel began amid controversy. In 2025 the tour's European opener coincided with a walkout by several top men's players demanding better conditions, and the council halved its contribution. Even so, the arena was full for the deciding matches.
The 2026 edition, from 1 to 8 March, went ahead with every star in the draw. Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto beat Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia 7-5, 7-6 in the men's final, and Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea defended their women's title in front of a packed crowd. A third edition makes Gijón one of the tour's regular venues in Spain.
