Libaak and Alfonso make it three quarter-finals in a row

Gonza Alfonso and Tino Libaak keep rolling. They defeated Mike Yanguas and Pablo Lijó, the eighth seeds, who paired up after Coki Nieto's injury, 6-1 7-6, and have now reached the last eight in Rotterdam, Düsseldorf and Milan in succession. The two Argentinians, both picked for the World Championships in Doha, lost to Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia at the last two tournaments. This time the opponents are different: defending champions Fede Chingotto and Ale Galán, who dispatched Xisco Gil and Rama Valenzuela 6-1 6-1 in 58 minutes.

The rest of the men's quarter-finals

In the top half, Coello and Tapia beat José Jiménez and Álex Arroyo 6-2 6-2 and will face Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal, who already beat them in Pretoria this season. Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz, runners-up in Rotterdam and Düsseldorf, take on Momo González and Lucas Campagnolo, who needed three sets to get past Lucas Bergamini and Jairo Bautista.

Seven of the eight women's seeds through

Only one seeded pair fell in the women's draw. Raquel Eugenio and Jimena Velasco, who had already knocked out Marina Guinart and Ale Alonso in the first round, beat Carolina Orsi and Patty Llaguno in straight sets and open Friday's play on Centre Court against Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay. Paula Josemaría and Bea González were the only favourites pushed to a third set, winning 6-7 6-3 6-2 against Lorena Rufo and Victoria Iglesias after two hours and 37 minutes. Milan lost its last Italian players when Giulia Dal Pozzo and Nuria Rodríguez went down 6-4 6-2 to Ale Salazar and Aranzazu Osoro.

The quarter-finals are played on Friday 16 October and the tournament ends on Sunday with the finals.
