France has become happy hunting ground for Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal. The pair won the FIP Platinum in Lyon on Sunday, coming back to beat Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz 4-6 6-1 6-4 at the Palais des Sports de Gerland. It is their second Platinum title of the season on French soil, after their win in Marseille in February.

The final started badly for Guerrero and Leal, the second seeds, who dropped the opening set 6-4. From there they turned the match around, dominating the second set 6-1 and closing out the third 6-4. "We're happy to have won again in France," said Leal, whose mind was already on the next stop: Rotterdam.

Caldera wins Lyon again, this time with Goenaga

In the women's draw, Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga beat Martina Fassio and Agueda Perez convincingly, 6-1 6-3. It is a second title in the city for the player from Valladolid, who won the FIP Gold there in 2024 alongside Lorena Rufo. Goenaga admitted the match had been closer than the scoreline suggests.

What comes next

Platinum events award valuable points for the FIP Ranking and for the FIP Race, the road to the Finals in Barcelona. There is no time to rest: the Premier Padel tour returns this week with the P2 in Rotterdam, while Perugia, Italy, hosts the FIP Gold Mediolanum Padel Cup.
