The International Padel Federation (FIP) held its 36th General Assembly on Monday 12 October at the headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) in Madrid. The meeting admitted 15 new national federations, taking FIP membership to 115, and marked 35 years since the federation was founded in the same city.

Fifteen new countries across four continents

The newcomers are Afghanistan, Angola, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belarus, Colombia, Libya, Mauritius, Namibia, Peru, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uzbekistan and Zambia. Six are African, four are from the Americas, four from Asia and one from Europe. The pace is brisk: at the previous assembly, held in Acapulco in November 2025, FIP had reached 100 members with another 14 admissions.

A symbolic charter for the 35th anniversary

To mark the anniversary, representatives of the three founding federations (Spain, Argentina and Uruguay) signed a symbolic founding charter together with Mexico, where padel was born, and FIP president Luigi Carraro. Delegates restated their backing for padel's Olympic ambitions, and COE president Alejandro Blanco said he "cannot imagine the Olympic movement's future without it".

A league for national teams, adaptive padel and an economic report

The assembly reviewed the board's annual and financial reports and proposed amendments to FIP statutes and sporting regulations. Among the new initiatives, FIP outlined the FIP World League, a new competition for national teams that do not take part in the FIP World Cup; further details are to follow. Adaptive padel was set as a priority.

Delegates also previewed the World Padel Report 2026, which for the first time includes an economic impact study produced with OpenEconomics. The full report is published on the FIP website this Wednesday 14 October. On the competition side, the CUPRA FIP Tour now runs in 60 countries, FIP Promises reaches 36 and the 2026 Alpine Paris Major drew 81,000 spectators to Roland-Garros.
